Abraham Lincoln will be here to speak of the history of the United States during his time, from his childhood to his position as president. For ages 8 to adult. Registration required.

Adults and children alike will enjoy hearing a first-hand account from Abraham Lincoln himself.  He will speak of the history of the United States of America during his time, from his childhood on the frontier to the twelve turbulent years from 1854 to 1865, which nearly destroyed our young nation but instead eventually resulted in a “new birth of freedom”.

Mr. Lincoln quotes from his best-known speeches and writings, and he also talks about his own inspiring story of how he rose from a humble background to the highest office in the land through self-study, hard work, ambition, and a strong moral character. This program is most appropriate for adults and for children from eight years old on up.  Registration required.

Join us to meet President Lincoln on these dates:

  • Tuesday, October 21, 6:00pm - 7:30pm @ Delaware Main Library
  • Wednesday, October 22, 6:00pm - 7:30pm @ Liberty Branch Library

Mr. Lincoln is portrayed by Kevin Wood, a professional Lincoln presenter who bears a remarkable resemblance to “the Great Emancipator” and who is extremely knowledgeable about his life and times.
Mr. Wood has been portraying Mr. Lincoln since the year 2000, and on a professional basis since 2015. He has made over 2,400 appearances in 35 states plus Washington DC and two foreign countries: Canada and Spain.

About the branch

The 35,000 square foot Delaware Branch Library is the oldest branch of our library system, which serves the public as well as houses a majority of our administrative offices. Located around the corner from downtown Delaware, it serves as our central branch for those on foot as well as those in a rush.

The Delaware Library also hosts the Delaware County Genealogical Society. Genealogical Society volunteers are in the Library to assist researchers on limited dates and by appointment.

DCDL welcomes all people to our programs and events. If you require ASL interpretation or other reasonable accommodations, please contact us at pr@delawarelibrary.org.
