Hear virtually about the fashion of Jane Austen's time, including what was worn for each occasion, terms used during the period, and the evolution of styles. Registration Required.
Using fashion prints from her collection, Author Candice Hern will provide an overview of the types of clothing worn during the extended Regency, c1795-1820, which was the time of Jane Austen (and the time in which the Bridgerton novels are set). Candice will explore fashions for various occasions or activities, including day wear and evening wear. Terms used during the period -- such as undress, half dress, and full dress -- will be explained and illustrated with prints. Popular types of outerwear will also be showcased, including pelisses, spencers, and mantles. The general evolution of style will also be discussed, including changing waistlines and hemlines. Registration required.
Please note this is a live-streamed event, and the speaker will be presenting remotely, not in person. Participants coming into the library for this presentation will be viewing the live presentation via a screen. When you register, please let us know if you will be coming in person to the library or attending via Zoom. We will be sending out the Zoom information in later emails.
