Join writer, producer, and publisher Damon Mosley in a discussion with the Delaware African American Heritage Council, followed by a meet & greet and a book signing of "Smile for We."
Mosley just released his second book, "Smile for We," as part of a movement to stop the negative stereotypes seen in movies and on TV. He wants to help the world see Black men in a different light, so he grabbed his camera and went outside to find beauty in the US. As more teens are caught up in violence, he hopes the book can also serve as a positive influence, full of role models for younger generations. Learn more about "Smile for We" and Damon Mosley at https://smileforwe.com. Watch an ABC6 interview with Damon!
Mosley will chat with Johnnie Jackson, MBA, Diversity and Equity Supervisor for Marion City Schools. They will discuss how Mosley became an author, the inspiration for the book, defining language, and exploring and reframing themes. He'll talk about how negative images of Black men - in news coverage, entertainment, and politics - are weaponized into actual legislation against the Black community. Thus the need for rebranding through positive images.
Johnnie Jackson is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Educational Leadership at Miami University. He is currently the Diversity and Equity Supervisor for Marion City Schools.
