Minimize Risk, Maximize Life

Reducing the Risk of Problems Related to Alcohol Consumption

Minimize Risk, Maximize Life is a low-risk drinking course for adults who would like to learn about reducing the risk of problems related to alcohol consumption, for themselves or their loved ones.

The goal of this course is to awaken an inner reflection that recognizes that behavior change, when necessary is possible and how making that change enhances wellness and the quality of life. Registration is recommended.

This two-hour course approaches Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change Theory present in a group setting. Both use the concept of self-efficacy - the situation-specific confidence that people possess while making changes when desired and/or necessary. Both theories recognize that change is a process, not a one-time event, and an individual's readiness for change impacts their actions.

This course seeks to help participants think differently about their alcohol use behavior and ultimately consider what might be gained through adopting or maintaining low-risk drinking choices.

This program is a partnership with the Delaware Public Health District to address the Health District's latest Community Health Assessment from 2022. Data showed that 33% of Delaware County adults were considered binge drinkers.

Each participant will receive a $25 Walmart gift card after completion.  Registration Required.

Minimize Risk ~ Maximize Life (MRML) is an evidence-based program for adults of all ages who would like to learn about reducing the risk of problems related to alcohol consumption, for themselves or others. Alcoholic beverages remain the most used and abused substance for people of all ages. Alcohol consumption is normalized in social context yet has consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Through the use of a PowerPoint presentation and guided discussions, learn how to minimize the risk for alcohol problems while maximizing the quality of life.

The Delaware Public Health District is a "Combined Health District, serving Delaware County (except portions annexed to Westerville, Columbus, and Dublin), Delaware City and Powell." Their mission is to "Promote, protect and improve the health of the community."

Prevention Awareness Support Services (PASS) is a non-profit organization that provides "education, programming, and resource referrals to critical issues.  PASS supports evidence-based programs in each of the prevention focus areas of child abuse, alcohol and other drugs, mental illness, suicide and problem gambling."

Envision Partnerships uses "education, advocacy, and action" to "empower individuals, families, and communities to live healthy, safe, and drug-free lives in southwest Ohio."
