America's Game: Vintage Base Ball

with Ohio History Connection

Before there were legends like Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson, there was Base Ball. Rising to popularity in the first half of the 19th century, the sport hit a home run around the Civil War, eventually becoming known as America's game, or America's pastime. Learn more about how the sport developed from its humble roots with an Ohio History Connection and Ohio Village Muffins & Diamonds re-enactment baseball team volunteer. 

This program will also be offered at the Liberty Library on Monday, September 21 from 6:00-7:00 PM.

The Ohio Village Muffins & Diamonds are a group of enthusiastic lovers of the game who carry on the tradition of the sport as it was played in mid-nineteenth-century America. Games are played against other vintage teams from Ohio and across the country, as well as teams of local community members. Each season the Muffins play dozens of matches and travel all over Ohio and out-of-state.

The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio’s stories. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization chartered in 1885, the Ohio History Connection carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state’s history.
